Tailwaters Trip / Spring Forecast

I know it has been too long since I have written, and it is about time to start up again!
Tailwaters in Dallas sent four guys up a couple of weeks ago and everybody had a great time.We had two first timers and two seasoned flyfishermen. They all fished 2 1/2 days and switched up the guides and partners each day. The camaraderie and good natured ribbing made for a great weekend. The first two days were excellent with low water and great conditions for nymphing.Everybody caught fish and enjoyed great shore lunches with the guides. Nobody caught any huge fish but the numbers were good and and a few Browns were caught with the largest being around 21 inches. We all had great times at the table with Tina fixing some fine dinners and desserts. Sunday was not as good as Friday and Saturday because the wind was blowing a gale. Being in a drift boat is most often an asset to a flyfisherman. However, on dead low water in a high wind the guides really earn their money. All in all it was a great trip and everybody was talking about return trips when we waved goodbye.

Our Spring this year is looking GREAT! The Lake is down about six feet and this certainly bodes well for the wade fishing and our spring Caddis hatch.This is the lowest water we have had in about 5 years and I anticipate some great Soft hackle fishing as well as excellent dry fly action throughout March and April. Some of this will depend on how cold it gets in March, and also when the warm spring weather sets in to stay. If presenting dries to rising bows and browns, and wading, are your cup of tea. Then this is the year to come and see why the White River is rated as the number one tailwater river in the United States.
